So i have no idea what my group is going to do with our presentation group project. i believe that none of us were given enough time and the whole thing is going to be rushed....so itll be half assed and not even worth presenting but we will do our best..

VA Broken Down

Ok so my topic being discussed is VA health care. I want to make my community aware of VA health care. This is an issue that needs to be discussed because of our struggling economy. It is a growing topic that can effect millions in our nation. So for my service engagement hours I plan on going to a local Veteran's Hall and asking veterans themselves how they are affected by VA health care today. Also I want to touch bases on what they believe would be a good health care coverage for veterans today...

Veteran's Are in the Neutral

So I read a article that deals with my subject lightly but interest me as I read through it. The article is found on the New York Times called: For Veterans, These Politics are Personal By: Conrad Mulcahy. A link can be found at the bottom of this post. But Mr. Mulcahy speaks about how veterans are eager to hear what other parties have to offer. "But while 20 years ago most veterans could be counted on to vote Republican, this year is very different."(Mulcahy) Veterans today are beginning to look around at their options for president are. They want to know how is going to support them in this next presidential election. They were not too happy with the last president ,being from the republican party, on how he dealt with VA health care. Some went as far as going to the Democractic Convention to show to Obama that they really are people to be accounted for. So it will be very interesting to me which side veterans take. I do believe the issue of health care for veterans will be a huge turning point for the veterans. Who ever proposes the best takes all, at least thats what I believe. Americas Veterans are a huge group after all...

McCain for or against veterans???

So I was reading a news article online and came up with this interesting topic: POLITICS-US: McCain's Plan to Privatise Veterans' Health Care

So the article goes on to tell us that if McCain is to be elected president he is to give vouchers to non-combat veterans to receive treatment at for-profit, private hospitals. So in other words if you are a veteran with routine check ups, you can take them where ever you want and not just a VA hospital. This would give the opportunity to reduce wait times to see government doctors. But the downfall is that these government doctors are universally viewed as the best in the world. This quote taken from the article shows who is against it: "The Veterans of Foreign Wars' national legislative director has said the VA card would "undermine the entire system"." They also talk about how McCain has voted against full funding of the VA health care as a Senator in 2004 and 2005. So this raises the concern on whether a former naval officer, prisoner of war, and vietnam veterans is for or against VA health care. McCains version of combat wounded can totally be different from our definition. And this simple phase can kick many veterans out of the receiving end of the pool. So many questions need to be answers....so much research...so little time....

VA Health Care

So I am doing my research paper on VA health care and I have been looking up articles. Turns out that The Department of Veterans Affairs have been fighting Congress to get guaranteed health care for veterans. The problem is that the government needs an official count of eligible veterans and then will set a cap on the money being spent. The VA has fought for health care to be open to all veterans which happen in 1996. I also found out a lot of other issues involving the guaranteed health care plan. From Congress budget to who over looks the spending. Both of which i should cover in my paper coming up. So this is the starting point for my research paper. Hopefully i can find a lot more information as to what is being done to aid veterans. I have learned that Congress is the key to getting health care for vets.

So the name is Jonathan or just Jon for short. I currently attend CSUS as a freshman. I am mainly doing this blog for my English 1A class. Other than that this is my first blog ever. So we will see how it goes....
